FND Awareness Day UK | 25th March 2022 | Sharon’s Story

I was 21 when I first started having blackouts, but my local hospital dismissed me.

Fast forward to December 2021, when I was rushed into hospital thinking I had had a stroke as my left side numb and lost all strength. I had lots of tests to be told I have NEAD and FND, which was a shock.

Everything now adds up to when I was having them 13 years ago. Now I’m a 34 year old mum to 5 children, and my partner has become my carer as I can’t be left on my own due to seizures.

I have had to give up my career as a primary school teacher, and now I am on crutches and will be going in a wheelchair as I struggle to walk now. I can have up to 5 seizures in the day and at least 2/3 in the night. I have definitely found who my really friends are.
