FND Awareness Day UK | 25th March 2022 | Stephen’s Story

I have had Functional Neurological Disorder for the past 12 years and it ruined my life.

I lost my wife and my job. I was a self employed builder enjoying life with my family when one day I had a pain in my chest and thought it was a heart attack, but as time went on my left side became very weak and my legs also. It was the worse day of my life. I got taken in to hospital and the doctors and nurses treated me terrible as they didn’t believe me. They thought I was making it up.

I was eventually diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder, which at the time was referred to as conversion disorder. I was introduced to Margaret Stephens who became my OT. She was really great, and I don’t know what I would have done without her. She has always believed in me and never given up.

That was over 12 years ago and she still the same know. I now live a less stressful life and joined British Naturism as I have always been interested in naturism. It was the best thing I have ever done. I am now back on my feet and feel a lot better than I have in a long time.

Hope it continues
