A personal story of living with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).
~~~
I’m a mum of three young children with two dogs and a hubby, life was busy and fitness (gym) was my therapy until Covid.
After my 13th covid infection and hospitalisation I came home unable to walk properly on my right leg, it would shake and wobble, my speech became stuttering, a referral to neurology confirmed FND.
This began my slow change to my new normal and I dove into ways to help/improve my condition. Accepting a walking aid was tough but I found this funky bright coloured stick that made me feel like me still and my confidence grew.
FND has been hard to accept but has taught me to slow down, listen to my body and slowly retrain my brain as best I can to minimise symptoms. My life is completely different to 5 years ago but the quality and joy have returned. I still get bad days and when tired struggle with speech but understanding, help and support from my loving family get me through.
