#InformTheDoctor Campaign

Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) is still not well understood by medical professionals in many parts of the UK, and clinical knowledge is often outdated. This leads to people being left untreated and suffering as they are unable to access any appropriate care.

Whilst we have put a lot of time and effort into our support and advocacy work over the last few years, we still remain in a position where suitable services are extremely lacking, and this continues to cause harm to those who are suffering within the FND community. With your help, we aim to raise much needed awareness so that the NHS, and other care related services, are fully aware of how serious this matter is. Furthermore, having appropriate services would lessen the time and financial strain put on primary and emergency care services.

On the 10th October 2022, the 6th anniversary of FND Action, we launched a campaign called #InformTheDoctor. The aim of this campaign was to provide a downloadable sheet containing up to date information about FND for people with the condition to share with their doctor.

The information sheet was designed to tackle the stigma around the condition, and also inform medical professionals about the latest research. We were amazed by the success of the campaign, particularly when we started receiving messages from all over the world.

For this reason we decided to continue with the campaign and add a third option – to send the information sheet on a patient’s behalf. This was introduced on FND Awareness Day UK, the 25th March 2023.

We would like to welcome you to join our campaign. We also want to make it known that even though FND Action is a UK based charity, this information sheet can also be accessed and used worldwide.

Below is a link to the downloadable information sheet and also details of the three options where you can get involved. In addition to you providing recipient information for ‘option three’, we are also, in addition, actively sending this information sheet to medical establishments across the UK as an awareness drive.

We extend our warmest gratitude to everyone who has got involved so far, and we do hope this campaign will lead to better treatment for the FND community.
