Participants needed | Measuring Change In Individuals With FND And/Or Functional Seizures (NEAD)

This study is to help understand changes in people with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and/or Non-Epileptic Attack Disorder (NEAD) depending on whether they receive specialised psychological treatment or not.

The research team is looking for people who have received a diagnosis of FND and/or NEAD from a specialist (like a neurologist).

What’s it about?

This study is to help understand and measure treatment-related changes in Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and/or Non-Epileptic Attack Disorder (NEAD). Questionnaires and measures of behaviour and thought patterns before and after psychotherapy will be used to examine any changes in well-being in individuals with FND and/or NEAD.

This study is part of a PhD-project based at the University of Sheffield.

Am I eligible to take part?

You are eligible if you meet one the following criteria:

  • You have a clinical diagnosis of FND and/or NEAD and are currently awaiting the start of psychotherapy provided by a neurology service.
  • You have a clinical diagnosis of FND and/or NEAD and are about to finish receiving a course of psychotherapy provided by the neurology service.
  • You have a clinical diagnosis of FND and/or NEAD and have never received any psychotherapy.
  • If you do not have a diagnosis you are being asked to consider participating in this study as a healthy volunteer.

In addition you will need to be able to answer health-related questionnaires and participate in computer-based tasks, with assistance if required, and be able to answer questions in English.
