Anne-Marie’s Story | FND Awareness Day UK 2026

A personal story of living with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND).
~~~
I first started having symptoms just over a year ago when I would lose the feeling in my legs and feet, I would have tremors & leg spasms and would barely be able to walk as a result as well as chronic lower nerve back pain. I would feel electric shock sensations going through my hands and would have to use a crutch to walk.
I was in and out of hospital getting clear MRI scans done but still did not know why I was having symptoms. Eventually, on one hospital admission, they diagnosed me with Functional Neurological Disorder and I finally knew what I was dealing with.
It has been a difficult journey and I still have symptoms. Currently, I am on a crutch to walk but I am still grateful to have gotten a diagnosis and to know what is going on with me.
I think it is important to raise awareness for FND as I had never heard of it until I was diagnosed with it. I am grateful for the people I have around me too that support me.
